In February and March 2023, the month-on-month (MoM) increase in the seasonally adjusted number of persons in employment stood at 56,000 and 57,000, respectively.
In April 2023, approximately 45.7 million people were employed in Germany, a marginal increase of 15,000 from March 2023.
However, unemployment also rose by 19,000 (1.4 per cent) compared to April 2022, totalling 1.41 million; the unemployment rate held steady at 3.2 per cent.
After adjusting for seasonal effects, the number of unemployed was 1.30 million.
The results of the labour force survey revealed that 1.41 million people in Germany were unemployed in April 2023. This represented an increase of 19,000, or 1.4 per cent, compared with April 2022. The unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.2 per cent, April 2022: 3.2 per cent.
Adjusted for seasonal and irregular effects, the number of unemployed stood at 1.30 million, which was a decline of 6,000 people, or 0.4 per cent, on March 2023. The adjusted unemployment rate in April 2023 remained unchanged on the previous month at 2.9 per cent.
