One of the biggest reasons behind the defeat of New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026 final was their ineffective bowling in the powerplay. The first six overs of India\u2019s innings set the tone for the entire match, as New Zealand bowlers failed to apply early pressure or pick up crucial wickets.<\/p>\n

India\u2019s aggressive opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma dominated the powerplay with fearless stroke play. They attacked both pace and spin, finding regular boundaries and quickly pushing the scoring rate beyond New Zealand\u2019s control.<\/p>\n

After a dominant start from the Indian openers, New Zealand had an opportunity to pull things back during the middle overs. Chasing a massive target set by India, the likes of Finn Allen, Rachin Ravindra failed to provide a solid foundation, losing key wickets early in the innings and putting the team under immense pressure. While Seifert stood strong, scoring 52 off 26 deliveries, other batters could not provide apt support. Mitchell Santner walked in and played a key innings of 35-ball 43.<\/p>\n

After Team India posted a record-breaking 255\/5, New Zealand faced one of the highest-ever targets in a T20 World Cup final. The enormity of the chase immediately put the Kiwi batters under pressure. Chasing such a huge total required aggressive batting from the start, but the New Zealand batters, except Tim Seifert, failed to capitalize. This meant the middle and lower order had to rebuild while keeping up with an escalating required run rate. The mounting scoreboard pressure forced batters into risky shots, which led to further dismissals and slowed momentum in the innings.<\/p>\n

Poor captaincy by Mitchell Santner<\/h3>\n
