During The 1975’s headline set at London’s Finsbury Park on Sunday, Matty Healy gave a heartfelt shout-out to his friend and fellow musician, Lewis Capaldi.
Between songs, the 34-year-old About You artist paid tribute to the 26-year-old Someone You Loved singer, who recently had to step back from touring due to the impact of his Tourette’s on his ability to perform.
Matty shared that Lewis had reached out to him on the same day he canceled his concerts to “check in.”
Matty told the crowd: “I want to send my sincerest thoughts to Lewis Capaldi who is a good friend of mine. Who on the day when he had to cancel his tour, checked in on me. Just think about that.”
“And it’s also a reflection on how hard being a solo artist is as I would not be doing this show if I didn’t have these amazing men and women behind me,” he reflected.
The Somebody Else singer also spoke about the controversial jokes that have gone viral during his band’s tour.
“I was always trying stuff and some stuff I got right and some stuff I got wrong… jokes that I’ve made and there’s probably a couple of songs I’d take back if I had the choice.”
The previous week, Lewis Capaldi announced that he would be taking an extended break from touring due to his Tourette’s syndrome.
This decision followed his difficulty in finishing his set at Glastonbury the previous Saturday, which sparked concerns about the future of his music career.
