Marcus Major, RB
In two of the past three seasons, the Gophers backfield depth has been severely tested because of injuries, and with that in mind, coach P.J. Fleck mined the transfer portal to bring in help behind starter Darius Taylor. Major, a graduate transfer from Oklahoma, is one of three portal additions in the backfield, joining Sieh Bangura (from Ohio University) and Jaren Mangham (Michigan State). At 6-0 and 220 pounds, Major brings size and a nose for the end zone (eight career rushing TDs). He’s impressed in training camp, too. “He’s a really good player,” Fleck said. “It’s one thing to be able to show it in practice, and it’s one thing to be able to show it in the offseason. … I’m impressed so far.”
