India cricket team are gearing up to prepare for the ODI World Cup in 2027 following their T20 World Cup 2026 win and Jasprit Bumrah is an integral part of their plans. As per reports, the premium Indian pacer – who finished as the leading run-getter in the recently-concluded tournament, will focus more on ODIs than T20Is leading up to the marquee event. Bumrah’s workload management comes under scrutiny once again as he is an all-format player and is essential for India’s success in the 50-over format as well.

What will be Bumrah’s workload management for 2027 WC?

As per news agency PTI, a source has claimed that Bumrah will play more ODIs than T20Is in order to prepare for the World Cup in 2027. The source claimed that while the premium Indian pacer will surely be a part of most Tests during the WTC 2025/27 cycle, he will focus more on the 50-over format games. The source added that Bumrah’s fitness was key to India and that the team management must prioritize the formats that the plays in.

“Obviously Bumrah’s fitness is as always key to any of India’s global campaign and hence the Indian team management will have to be very careful and prioritise the formats. Keep Test cricket aside, which he will obviously play, but in the 50-over World Cup cycle, he will concentrate more on ODIs. There will be around 30-35 odd games and one can’t take chances,” a BCCI source said.

The report claims that while Bumrah is keen on playing the LA Olympics in 2028, his focus remains on featuring in the 2027 ODI World Cup. Earlier this week, India head coach Gautam Gambhir had said that the blueprint for the marquee event next year will be ready by the end of IPL 2026. Bumrah will next be in action for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026 following his heroics in T20 World Cup 2026.
